Trucks are the type of vehicle that is considered an excellent all-rounder with tons of advantages and only a handful of disadvantages. The bigger ground clearance and beefy tires mean that you can take your truck off-roading and not worry about having plenty of space for passengers or cargo.

That brings me to today's topic. I'll be outlining the best 10 off-road tires for your truck. To be able to provide information for a wider audience, I'll be dividing them into two categories: dedicated off-road tires and all-terrain ones.

While both types can go off-roading, the main difference is when it comes to extreme off-roading. For those scenarios, the dedicated tires will outperform the all-terrain ones with ease. On the other hand, the all-terrain tires cannot compete with extreme conditions but are generally considered better for on-road situations.

Overall, I'll be covering both sides, and it will be up to you which type you'll go for. If you do a lot of city or highway driving with the occasional off-roading adventure, the all-terrain ones will be perfect. If you go off-roading often and need a tire that can perform exceptionally in every condition, the dedicated ones are the better option. The minute you start off-roading with this tire, you will understand why I mentioned that it has premium-like qualities. Designed with Armor Tek3 technology, it means that it's a tough tire that can take a beating. During the testing, it managed to perform excellently, passing through all kinds of terrain with ease. For harder surfaces or rocks, you can deflate them slightly without damaging them. For softer surfaces like mud, the solder lugs are there to find traction and pull you out.

The on-road performance of the Discoverer STT Pro is just about okay, which is no surprise. The performance on dry tarmac won't blow you away, but you will reach your destination without too much fuss. Off-road tires won't provide any driving dynamic, and the traction is decent, as long as you don't push things too far. The wet performance is just as average.

When things get cold, the Discoverer STT Pro will struggle the most. Unpacked snow shouldn't be a problem, and thanks to the tread pattern, it will have some grip. If you run into packed snow or ice, the tires are almost useless with almost no traction.

The comfort and noise levels are decent for an off-road tire. It manages to even our plenty of the road imperfections without any issues. Even though there is tire noise, as you'd expect, it's not the loudest tire on the market.

In the premium tire segment, Goodyear has been the brand that stayed on top of the game for decades. It designs all kinds of tires, and the toughest model you can get is the Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar. Essentially, it's a super durable off-road tire that has decent capabilities on-road.

Off-roading with the Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar has been nothing but positive. No matter what kind of surface you go over, it will grip without breaking a sweat. Rock-crawling is also excellent as the driver gets plenty of information about what the front tires are doing. Even though the tires are not completely made of Kevlar, Goodyear used it in the compound to provide better durability. With that, it gets 35% better resistance from cuts or punctures when compared to its predecessor. If you need to drive through muddy areas, the Wrangler MT/R will get you across without any problems. The mud-flowing geometry of the tread pattern will ensure that the tire finds grip even in deep mud.

Driving on roads has been a decent experience, slightly better than the previous model I outlined. Regardless if it's dry or wet, the tire will provide excellent levels of grip and may even feel more responsive than you'd expect. It does struggle a bit in the wet, but it's nothing serious.

The driving comfort is great, as long as you don't compare it with a touring tire. On the other hand, the noise levels are quite higher than other off-road tires, especially at higher speeds.

Continuing with the premium brand trend in the off-road segment, you have BFGoodrich's Mud-Terrain T/A KM3. Don't let the name fool you. Despite being an excellent tire for muddy situations, this model is definitely the best off-road tire you'll find on the market.

BFGoodrich developed this tire with the Terrain-Attack pattern, which features symmetric tread design. As a result, you get excellent performance in multiple off-roading scenarios, ranging from dirt and gravel to mud. The Mud-Terrain T/A KM3's rock-crawling performance has been improved over the previous generation. This is helped by the Traction-Armor Sidewall Sculpture technology that enables the tire to be deflated without damaging the sidewall. On top of that, it also ensures that it doesn't get damaged during some extreme off-roading.

In general, off-road tires don't perform so well on the road, but that's not the case with the Mud-Terrain T/A KM3. While it won't replace a road tire, what surprised me the most was the levels of grip it had, even when I pushed it a bit harder. Due to the higher sidewall, there is some flexing, but that is to be expected. The wet performance was just as impressive as the dry, and the tire managed to resist hydroplaning decently.

Moving on to snow, it performed exemplary. The tread pattern that enables the tire to gid in and finds traction in mud is the same reason why it can perform in the snow just as well.

The US tire manufacturer General is not something that comes to people's minds when it comes to tire replacement. Despite that, over the years, the company managed to give us tons of models that provide excellent performance at a reasonable price. One such example is the Grabber X3.

Putting this tire through off-roading will show you how good non-premium tires can be in certain situations. Regardless if you are driving on gravel or dirt, the tire will find traction and feel stable and safe. The Duragen technology that General used combined with the 3-ply body casing gives the Grabber X3 its rigidity. It is important in rock-climbing situations as you can deflate it without damaging it. In mud, I felt like it could compare this tire with some of the mode premium models on this list. The open tread design provided excellent traction even in deeper mud.

Things don't look too good when it comes to on-road performance. The performance is not terrible, but it's a bit worse than decent, to be honest. There is grip, and it's not like you're driving the worst tires in the world, but there are better-suited options for driving on-road.

Comfort is also not the Grabber X3's strongest suit. The ride quality is average and isn't too harsh on bumpy roads, but the worst part of it was the noise. When compared with the other options on this list, this is the loudest tire, even at slower speeds around town.

5. Toyo Open Country M/T

The last off-road tire I'll be reviewing comes from a manufacturer that isn't famous for making these kinds of tires. Toyo is generally known for road and performance tires, but after driving the Open Country M/T, I think that it deserves to be here.

Like all of the previous tires I mentioned, the Toyo Open Country M/T is a very capable off-road tire. The tread design and beefy sidewall mean that it won't struggle with any terrain. The mud performance was even more impressive. Thanks to the huge blocks down the tire and over the shoulders, it felt like it could crawl out of any muddy situation. The stone ejectors design helps it clean itself from stones of mud buildup, and in return, it ensures even wear and constant grip.

Driving the Toyo Open Country M/T on the road was a solid experience. The tire had had lots of traction and held well to the road. A slight downside was that due to the overall design of the tire, the driving dynamics are muted, and the tire was a bit slow to respond. On wet roads, things improved a bit, and the tire had a decent resistance to hydroplaning.

The biggest surprise was on unpacked snow. The big blocks managed to dig in and find grip, regardless of how deep the snow patch was. Unfortunately, I didn't have the same experience on packed snow, and the tire didn't have as much grip as I was hoping.

On the comfort side of things, the experience was average and not very harsh. As for noise, even though it's not the loudest tire here, there are quieter options.

The BFGoodrich All-terrain T/A KO2 is also an off-road tire which is slightly less capable in extreme off-roading scenarios, but it makes up for it with on-road performance.

In this category, this is among the best off-roading tires you can find. BFGoodrich took a lot of cues from its racing development and used them for the All-terrain T/A KO2. Regardless if you are driving over hard or soft surfaces, the tire will provide lots of grip while being durable. This is thanks to the Sidewall Armor that BFGoodrich used to ensure that it lasts long.

On-road performance is exceptional. On dry tarmac, the levels of grip are excellent, considering that it's an all-terrain tire. The driving dynamics are also great, and it responds well to the driver's inputs. A similar experience is in wet conditions, offering plenty of grip and a fairly short braking distance. The trend continues in the winter, where the All-terrain T/A KO2 provides excellent traction and responsiveness on snow.

The comfort levels are decent enough but not the best. As for noise, that's the biggest downside, as the tire can get quite noisy, especially at higher speeds. BFGoodrich offers a 50,000-mile warranty on the tread, which is decent, considering that it's an all-terrain tire.

Goodyear's Wrangler lineup offers plenty of off-road and all-terrain tires, but the most durable ones are the models with Kevlar. The All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar is the best all-terrain tire you can find on the market.

In terms of off-roading, you get the premium experience as you'd expect. The Durawall technology that Goodyear used ensures consistent and superb traction on multiple off-road surfaces. It also means that during your off-roading adventures, you won't have to worry about damaging the tires. This is also backed up by the 60,000-mile treadwear warranty that Goodyear offers. One aspect where it does fall short is in sandy situations, where it struggles to find grip.

Driving on the road, both in dry and wet, is excellent. Not only does it feel stable, but the handling is also surprisingly good for an all-terrain tire. It will start to lose traction if you push it far past its limits, but not many people would drive it that aggressively. The snow performance is also great, and thanks to the tread design, the Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar can dig in the snow and provide decent amounts of traction.

8. Kumho Road Venture AT51

Kumho is known for offering affordable tires with decent capabilities. In their Road Venture lineup of off-road capable tires, I present to you the AT51. It's an all-terrain tire with decent on and off-road performance.

Despite the lower price tag, this is a tire very capable of tackling most off-roading scenarios. On harder surfaces like gravel or dirt, it performed marvelously. I had a similar experience with rocky roads as well as muddy patches. The one aspect where the tire fell shorter than the competition was in deeper mud, where it struggled for traction.

As soon as you start driving on the roads, you will feel the difference between the Kumho Road Venture AT51 and its premium rivals. The traction and responsiveness were excellent for its class but not as good as some of the other models on my list. Despite that, it was stable and had decent braking distances. It's safe to drive as long as you don't push things too far. One aspect where it did manage to surprise was when I drove it on snow. I wouldn't put it as a winter tire replacement, but it did manage to tackle light snow with ease.

The part where it disappointed me the most was the ride quality. It felt quite harsh even on smoother roads, and there was a lot of noise at higher speeds.

9. Falken Wildpeak A/T3W

When you compare the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W with the previous model, you will find that they are quite a lot alike. Both offer decent all-around performance at a reasonable price.

The first thing anyone will notice is that it has a slightly deeper tread than most of the other all-terrain tires. During off-road driving, you will feel the advantage of that. The traction over hard and soft surfaces is excellent, and it may seem like you are driving a dedicated off-road tire. As soon as things start to get more extreme, the performance drops, which is to be expected from an all-terrain tire.

The on-road experience was average, and there was nothing that stands out in terms of traction. In the corners, the grip is decent, and at higher speeds, it feels stable. In terms of braking, it doesn't break any world records, but it does get the job done in a relatively short distance. The sipes down the tire give it the advantage it needs when it comes to wet and snow driving. In other words, it can resist hydroplaning and dig into the snow, as long as it's not too deep.

Falken offers a 55,000-mile treadwear warranty for the Wildpeak A/T3W, meaning that you are getting a long-lasting tire.

The ride quality is just as average as the rest of the performance. The noise levels, on the other hand, are below average, and you can hear them when driving at higher speeds.

Whenever you hear Mickey Thompson, the first thing that comes to mind is off-road tires. While that's true, this company also has plenty of all-terrain tires capable of off-roading. The one I'll be including in this list is the Baja ATZ P3.

As you may have guessed, this is an excellent tire for off-roading. There is no surface where it won't grip, even if things start to go a bit extreme. What surprised me the most was how capable it was as soon as it was introduced to sand. To ensure longevity and durability, Mickey Thompson designed the sidewall with a 3-ply construction. Even though it provides robustness and durability, the tire only has a 45,000-mile treadwear warranty.

On the road, things are good, but not in all situations. On dry tarmac, the traction was excellent, and the Baja ATZ P3 stayed very stable at higher speeds. As soon as it started raining, the deep tread provided decent resistance to hydroplaning. The area where it didn't perform as well was in snowy conditions, falling behind the rest of its competitors.

In terms of comfort and noise levels, things are average, meaning that it's not the best nor the worst in this class.
